Day 348 - Exile
I was sent out
For the mistake of embarrassing
A man in his own house.
Now all I have is my work
And a small garden to tender.
Many mornings I sit
Listening to the birds
Chatter like taverna girls
While at night I lie awake
Listening to the ocean
Make slow surging sounds
Like a thousand quiet voices
Muttering in an adjacent room.

Day 340 - All Is Quiet
All is quiet it seems
A little blustery perhaps
With snow tap tap tapping
Against the window
Like a bird feather fluttering
You hear the cat breathing
In his sleep
And the clock keeping time
In the empty kitchen
Gives permission
To the fridge to whir
Down to silence
Then there is real quiet
The kind where the mice are heard
Turning over in their sleep.
